Fitness Motivation

Following on from our fitness tips last month, we share our ideas on how to engage your mind to stay motivated this year. Too many of us join the crowd of short-term gym goers, who flock to the gyms in the early part of January, turning gym machines into 20 minute queues and the sparse selection of dumbbells into a rare luxury. Armed with brand new gym gear and protein shake in hand, they only seem to last until the hot cross buns appear on shelves (i.e. round about now, much to our delight!).

How can you avoid joining this January Gym-goes stereotype? It’s time to break down the philosophy we have that will create the best version of YOU this 2017. Make sure you remember all about the most important of the 3 magical Cs: Consistency (Read more here..)

Virgin Active Master PT Michael Akande emphasises ‘’having integrity to your goals’’ because at the end of the day you’re only in a race with yourself. Only you have the creative freedom to tailor your runway, goals, ambition and effort. Master PT Mike has developed something he calls the ‘five fives’ to get you kick-started into this new way of thinking... and you don’t even need a gym to get this work done.

It's simply five sets of 10 x two different exercises that you do 5 times a week. Let's all try squats and crunches this week - so that's 50 of each, 5 times. This time next week you'll have done 250 squats and 250 crunches... right?

Your mentality is so important because you need to convince yourself it is worth the pain. One way to keep the fuel inside you burning is to have a strong answer to the question ‘Why?’ Ask yourself why you want to get fitter, stronger, slimmer or faster and then write it down somewhere you can check on frequently to remind yourself.

Tweet us, Instagram us or follow us on LinkedIn if you want more exercises and don’t forget to get your 5-a-day.
